Premier League outfit Newcastle United sent scouts to a Serie A clash on Tuesday and Gunter would be a perfect fit for Steve Bruce’s team.

Newcastle United are preparing a £9 million January bid for Koray Gunter after being impressed by the Hellas Verona defender on Tuesday night, according to Calciomercato.
The Magpies apparently had scouts in the stands at the Stadio Marc Antonio Bentegodi in midweek and Gunter certainly picked a good time to produce his finest performance of the season.
The Genoa loanee was in top form as Verona kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw with Udinese, making three passes, two clearances, winning three aerial duels and boasting a 91 per cent pass completion average.
Interestingly, Gunter lined up against The Zebras on the left of a back three. And with Steve Bruce using a three-man defence since taking over at St James’ Park, the former Borussia Dortmund youngster could slot straight into his starting XI with ease.

Calciomercato points out that Hellas Verona have the option to sign Gunter permanently for around £4.5 million but they could be tempted to cash in and take home a substantial profit in January.
Newcastle are apparently willing to pay £9 million, meaning the Serie A newcomers could immediately double their money.
