Newcastle United’s interest in handing Vurnon Anita and Yoan Gouffran has waned recently, according to reports.
Newcastle United are now likely to let Vurnon Anita leave
A report in the Shields Gazette has suggested that Newcastle are likely to allow Vurnon Anita and Yoan Gouffran leave the club during the summer having lost interest in handing the pair new contracts.
The Shields Gazette reports that Anita and Gouffran are both out of contract at St James’ Park this summer, and while there may have previously been interest in handing them extensions, the Magpies’ desire to keep either has waned in recent times.
Despite both players making contributions during their Championship title-winning campaign, it may not be too great a surprise or disappointment if either is told that they will have to find a new club in the coming months.
Gouffran may also be set to leave
Gouffran struggled during the Magpies’ time in the Premier League previously, while Anita has arguably not been at his best this past season, so perhaps Rafa Benitez is beginning to doubt whether he will be able to raise his game at the highest level.
And perhaps, with both men being a part of the Newcastle side that spent a handful of years just keeping their heads above water in the top flight before their relegation, Benitez may view their departures as part of the process of writing this new chapter in the club’s history.
