It has been reported that Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez wants to secure the services of the 28-year-old striker from Championship club West Brom in the summer transfer window.
The Premier League club’s owner, Ashley, though, reportedly has doubts over the Venezuela international striker, who is claimed to be Benitez’s preferred choice to Nicolai Jorgensen and Alassane Plea and will cost £16.5 million in transfer fees due to a relegation release clause.

According to The Shields Gazette, Ashley unsure about the long-term viability of Rondon due to him being 28 years of age.

Rondon is 28 years of age, and it is hard to see the striker having too much of a resale value.
Moreover, the record of the Venezuela international striker in the Premier League is not great, although one should appreciate that it is not easy for any striker to score a lot of goals in Tony Pulis’s system.
The 28-year-old striker scored seven goals in the Premier League last season and eight in the English top flight during the 2016-17 campaign.
