Spanish outlet Defensa Central claim Newcastle have opened talks to sign Real Madrid superstar Eden Hazard – the first club to do so ahead of the summer. However, Chelsea are also showing interest in bringing him back.
Hazard, 31, has a contract at Real Madrid until the summer of 2024 – having joined the Spanish outfit in 2020. But since his £130million (Standard) move to the Bernabeu, he has really struggled to replicate his Chelsea form.
This summer, it is likely that Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti will look to get Hazard off their wage bill. Newcastle are said to have opened talks to sign the ex-Lille man – the first club to have spoken to Madrid about the Belgian.
But Newcastle are not alone in their ambitious pursuit of the experienced winger. Chelsea are said to be considering a surprise move to bring him back to West London – but Madrid are awaiting a response from Chelsea.
Newcastle eye Hazard: Sensational move, but is he more of a risk?
It would be an incredible move. But it must be said, his injuries and lack of form at Real Madrid is something of a cause for concern for Newcastle and any other interested parties. Many would argue that he is now past his best.
The Toon are likely to bring in big-name signings, but they would be best-advised to build for the future – bringing in players like Bruno Guimaraes. Hazard is not that. The chances are he would prove to be an expensive flop.
