Football Ghana have claimed on their website that Newcastle United have opened talks with Swiss giants Young Boys over a move to sign defender Kasim Nuhu, after first being linked with him last month.

Swiss newspaper Blick claimed last month that Newcastle were interested in signing the 22-year-old defender, who has impressed this season throughout his 45 league and cup appearances with Young Boys.

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is seen during the Premier League match between Newcastle United and Chelsea at St. James Park on May 13, 2018 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

Now, The Toon are believed to have opened talks with the Swiss side in an attempt to land Nuhu, who is said to be rated at around £8million – a fee Newcastle should be able to afford.

Rafa Benitez confirmed his first signing of the summer earlier this week, landing Sparta Prague goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on a permanent basis after an excellent second half to the season on loan.

Powerhouse Nuhu is renowned for his speed at the back, but more so his strength which allows him to muscle strikers off the ball and would certainly suit the fast-paced, physical style of the Premier League.

The Toon already boast plenty of centre-backs, with Jamaal Lascelles and Florian Lejeune considered first choice and Ciaran Clark and Chancel Mbemba in reserve. Signing Nuhu, though, could see the latter leave St. James’ Park.
