West Ham United have reportedly offered Andy Carroll to Newcastle United.
According to the Daily Mail, West Ham United have offered Newcastle United the chance to re-sign Andy Carroll – but he would rather stay in London than return to his former club.
The Magpies have been frustrated in the transfer market this season, with Rafael Benitez hoping for more and possibly bigger signings than Javier Manquillo, Florian Lejeune, Mikel Merino, Jacob Murphy and Joselu.
Whilst Joselu offers Newcastle another physical presence in attack, questions over Aleksandar Mitrovic’s future mean that another striker could yet be targeted before the transfer deadline – and rumours of a return for Andy Carroll have been sparked once again.
The Daily Mail report that West Ham have offered Newcastle the chance to re-sign Carroll this summer, and whilst it’s unclear whether Newcastle will follow that up, the striker himself may have other ideas.
It’s claimed that Carroll’s first choice is to stay in London, and whether that means staying with West Ham and fighting for his place or moving on to another club in the capital remains to be seen, but a move to Newcastle may now be unlikely.
Carroll, 28, was born in Gateshead and grew up supporting Newcastle, before coming up through the ranks with the club, eventually notching 33 goals in 91 games for the Magpies before his now infamous big-money move to Liverpool in January 2011.
Currently with West Ham, Carroll’s injury problems have been rife in East London, meaning he has played just 110 games in the last ten years, scoring 30 goals for the Hammers, meaning he has been a goalscorer when fit, but that just hasn’t happened often enough.
A move back to Newcastle would give Benitez another striker to call upon, but Carroll himself doesn’t appear to be keen on a move back to his boyhood club, with a move home allegedly not in his plans right now.
