Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are reportedly interested in Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy.

TEAMtalk have reported that Newcastle United are interested in signing Ferland Mendy from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

The report has claimed that Madrid have told Mendy that he is not in the plans for next season, and that Newcastle are among the clubs who are “now taking a close look” at the £154,000-a-week (SalarySport) defender.

Newcastle are on the hunt for a new left-back, and the chance to bring the 27-year-old France international to St. James’ Park is very appealing to the Magpies, who will play in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy would make Newcastle United better

In our view, Ferland Mendy would be a good signing for Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.

Yes, the Real Madrid left-back has had injury problems in recent times, and his overall performance for Los Blancos has not been particularly great.

However, there is no doubt that Mendy is a very good left-back whose best years are ahead of him.

After all, the left-back is still 27 now.

And Arsenal have been linked with Mendy as well.

Experienced agent Yvan Le Mee told France Football in June 2019 that Mendy is “the Kylian Mbappe of the left-back role” and “is good offensively and defensively, which is very rare”.

We believe that Mendy’s experience and quality would make Newcastle a better team and would enhance their chances of making an impact in the UEFA Champions League next season.
