Newcastle United have joined the race to sign Elye Wahi with Arsenal allegedly really keen on the Montpellier ace.

That is according to a report from Foot Mercato, who claim that Newcastle United are ‘very interested’ in Wahi.

The report does though claim that Arsenal have been following Wahi for a long time.

The Gunners have allegedly ‘not ruled out the idea’ of trying to sign Wahi this summer.

Folarin Balogun could be on the move this summer and Arsenal may choose to go for Wahi as a replacement.

It’s even added that Wahi looks ‘unlikely’ to stay in LIgue 1 right now with a Montpellier exit on the cards.

Arsenal and Newcastle aren’t the only clubs interested either with major Bundesliga interest emerging too.

Eintracht Frankfurt, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund are all keen on Wahi, with AS Monaco seen as outsiders in this race.

Who is Arsenal and Newcastle United target Elye Wahi?

Wahi was a big talent at Caen before moving on to Montpellier in 2018.

The forward started out in the Montpellier B team but has now become a first-team star in France.

Wahi has been simply sensational this season, smashing 17 goals and five assists in 30 Ligue 1 games.

Still only 20, Wahi has become one of the top talents in Ligue 1 and he should make Montpellier a lot of money.

Primarily a striker, Wahi has played out wide on occasion but his goalscoring form this season shows there is no reason to push him to the flanks.

Wahi may be the kind of young talent Newcastle want behind Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson having missed out on Joao Pedro.

Beating Arsenal won’t be easy but with Champions League football now imminent, Newcastle may fancy their chances of challenging for these in-demand players.
