Newcastle United are confident of signing Eden Hazard from Real Madrid, according to Sport.
What’s the story?
Sport have reported that Newcastle’s new owners are interested in signing former Chelsea star Hazard.
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) want a ‘galactic’ signing and are keen on securing the services of Madrid attacking midfielder Hazard.
PIF are reportedly ‘optimistic’ about getting a deal done because of the 30-year-old’s situation at the Spanish and European giants.
Hazard does not feature in Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s plans.
The La Liga club are open to selling Madrid to Newcastle at the right price.

Real Madrid spell
Hazard has been badly hit by injuries at Madrid.
The former Chelsea star has made four La Liga starts so far this campaign, made seven starts in the league last season, and 14 in 2019-20.
Madrid paid an initial £89 million (BBC Sport) for the star when they signed him from Chelsea in 2019.

Could Eden Hazard to Newcastle happen?
It does seem very, very unlikely that Hazard to Newcastle will happen in January despite this report in Sport.
Yes, Madrid may be willing to sell the Belgium international, who can also operate as a winger.
Moreover, Newcastle have wealthy owners and could make a good offer, both to Madrid and to the player.
However, in our view, Hazard will not be tempted by a move to Newcastle in the middle of the season.
The Magpies are in a relegation battle at the moment and do not have players of the calibre of Hazard.
However, anything is possible in football.
We have seen the rise of Manchester City.
Perhaps in the summer of 2022, a deal for Hazard could happen.
