According to Kicker, Newcastle are interested in signing VfL Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst, as they aim to stay in the Premier League.
What’s the story?
Well, the German news outlet believe Newcastle want the 29-year-old, who certainly knows where the goal is.
Weghorst scored 25 goals in 41 games last season, while also providing nine assists in what was a stunning individual campaign.
The 12-cap Netherlands international has carried on his fine form this term with seven goals in 20 outings.
Kicker believe Weghorst has recently changed his agency, which suggests that he’s eyeing up a move away from VfL Wolfsburg.
Additionally, Kicker state that the Newcastle target’s contract expires in June 2023, and they cannot see him staying beyond the summer of 2022.
What could Wout Weghorst bring to Newcastle?

Unless you follow the Bundesliga closely, you may not have heard of Weghorst.
If that is the case, a comparison might be of use, and the Dutchman has been likened to a Premier League icon – Edin Dzeko.
It was one of Dzeko’s former teammates, Grafite, who made the claim when speaking to the Bundesliga.
The Brazilian said: “Wout is great, I love the way he plays – it reminds me of Edin. I think he can score more next season. He’s not quite at Edin’s level yet, but he’s on the right path to become a top striker. He’s focussed, he’s got technique, he’s got power – I like it.”

In our view, Weghorst would be a fantastic signing to compliment Callum Wilson in attack.
The VfL Wolfsburg No.9 is fantastic in the air, and is also a fine finisher who doesn’t need many chances to score, which is exactly what you need in a relegation battle.
Keep an eye on this saga, as Weghorst looks set to leave VfL Wolfsburg in the near future – only time will tell if his destination turns out to be Tyneside.
