Newcastle United are now said to be in a ‘good position’ to sign Hamza Choudhury from Leicester City, the Telegraph report.

Steve Bruce claimed that Newcastle were hoping to secure some transfers before deadline day after their latest defeat to Leeds United last night.

And from the Telegraph’s latest update, it seems that one of Newcastle’s potential additions is Choudhury.

Newcastle have been tracking the Leicester enforcer for much of the window so far, but have been unable to seal a deal for him.

The Magpies have been competing with West Bromwich Albion for his signature, but are now considered the favourites to land him.

If Choudhury, who Harvey Barnes labelled as a ‘great player’ (Leicester Mercury), did arrive at Newcastle he could add more energy and depth to their midfield ranks.

The Leicester academy graduate has struggled for game time this season, but has previously shown a real combative streak, and that has obviously appealed to Bruce.

Choudhury’s arrival would provide Newcastle with a much needed boost, after a terrible run of form, which has seen them sucked into a relegation battle.
