Newcastle United have been discussing making a move to sign Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters this summer.

Southampton full back Kyle Walker-Peters could make an immediate Premier League return with Newcastle United weighing up a move.

That is according to The Telegraph, who claim that Walker-Peters is being discussed by Newcastle as possible signing.

It’s claimed that the Magpies are looking towards relegated players as they look to land value in the transfer market.

Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams is wanted, as are Leicester City duo Harvey Barnes and James Maddison.

Then there is Southampton, who appear to have a number of Newcastle targets on their books despite finishing bottom of the table.

Midfielders Romeo Lavia and James Ward-Prowse are wanted, as is full back Walker-Peters.

The latter has been added to Newcastle’s wish list amid regular links to both Lavia and Ward-Prowse.

TalkSPORT also claimed on Wednesday that Newcastle have been watching Southampton midfielder Carlos Alcaraz.

Signing four Saints players in one summer sounds unlikely but Newcastle appear to have a genuine interest in the quartet.

Kyle Walker-Peters could fit the bill for Newcastle United

Walker-Peters is one of few players to have come out of Southampton’s relegation campaign with some credit.

The former Tottenham talent continues to be a dependable Premier League full back, capable of playing on the right or the left.

That versatility may be very appealing to Newcastle, adding depth on both sides of the back four.

Kieran Trippier would certainly welcome competition from Walker-Peters having featured together at Tottenham Hotspur.

Trippier called Walker-Peters a ‘very good player’ during their time at Spurs and they could now reunite at Newcastle.

Eddie Howe will remember Walker-Peters too; he racked up three assists in one half of football against Howe’s Bournemouth in December 2018.

The 26-year-old has kicked on to become an England international and it feels very unlikely that he will play in the Championship.

Newcastle can offer an immediate top-flight return and Walker-Peters certainly make sense for the Magpies.
