The 30-year-old is yet to play for the Championship side this season.
Newcastle’s Cheick Tiote
Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote is reportedly closing in on a £1.5m move to Galatasaray, according to the Shields Gazette.
The Shields Gazette reports that the Ivory Coast international – who has just entered the final year of his contract with the Magpies – has travelled to Turkey for talks after it was made clear that he does not feature in Rafael Benitez’s plans at St James’ Park.

If Tiote does complete a switch to the Super Lig side, it will hardly be a surprise, nor is it likely to cause major disappointment amongst United supporters.

Though the 30-year-old has enjoyed some special moments since joining the club from Twente in 2010 – perhaps most famously, scoring the dramatic equaliser against Arsenal in 2011 after Newcastle had been 4-0 down at one stage – his time with the club has petered out to the point that he is yet to make any appearances for Benitez’s men since their relegation to the Championship.
With the writing seemingly on the wall for his career in England, it makes sense for the manager to try and move him on before the final couple of days of the window as it may provide him with more funds to make any last additions before the deadline.
