According to OwnGoalNigeria, Newcastle are in talks with Nantes over a deal for Moses Simon, who is also wanted by Leeds.

What’s the story?

Well, the report states that Newcastle are in talks over a deal worth £100,000-a-week, as they look to bring Simon to the Premier League.

It comes after the 26-year-old himself admitted Leeds tried to sign him during the January transfer window.

Now, Marcelo Bielsa looks set to lose out to Eddie Howe.

OwnGoalNigeria believe Newcastle’s Saudi Arabian owners wanted to bring Simon to Al-Nassr, and the same people are behind this fresh pursuit of the Nigerian.

It is also said that the Nantes No.27 is valued at £20m, which shouldn’t be a problem for Newcastle given their newfound wealth.

So far this season, Simon has scored two goals while also providing six assists in 20 appearances.

Leeds shouldn’t worry about Newcastle hijacking

In our view, this news shouldn’t upset Leeds too much.

By the looks of the statistics, Simon is not a player worth £20m, nor is he someone who should command wages of £100,000-a-week.

As aforesaid, he only has two goals in 20 games this season, and has failed to score more than ten league goals in a single campaign since 2013.

There are certainly better options out there for Leeds, so they can leave this one to Newcastle, who can afford to take gambles in the market as a result of their wealth.

If Simon excels in the Premier League, then fair enough. However, for the finances involved, it’s not worth the risk for Leeds.
