Spanish outlet Cadena COPE claim that Newcastle have made a last-minute enquiry to sign Atletico Madrid’s experienced defender Felipe. If a move occurs, Atletico will look to raid Barcelona for Aymeric Laporte.

Newcastle are set to make their second signing of deadline day with a move for Brighton’s Dan Burn. It comes after the club confirmed the loan signing of Aston Villa left-back Matt Targett – taking their total to five additions.

Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood and then Bruno Guimaraes joined the club for little under £80million. Burn takes that closer to the £100million mark – and now, a move for two-time Brazil star Felipe could push it into nine figures.

Cadena COPE report that Newcastle have made a late enquiry to sign the 32-year-old Atletico star, who has played 20 times in all competitions for Diego Simeone’s side. Laporte is being lined-up as a possible replacement.

Newcastle eye Felipe: Could Toon get a surprise late move over the line?

Newcastle’s priority at the start of the window was a centre-back. Burn looks likely to be their only addition in that department, despite links to the likes of Diego Carlos, Sven Botman, James Tarkowski and plenty more.

Little surprise, then, that the Toon are still scouring the market for another defender. There is some weight behind a move for Felipe, who is out of contract in the summer – and, that he is represented by Bertolucci Sports.

TransferMarkt claim as much – the same agency that look after Bruno Guimaraes and Diego Carlos. Will the Toon make a late plunge into the market for Felipe? They have less than three hours to do so.
