Report: Newcastle make contact over signing 25-year-old star, told to pay £27m

Newcastle United have made an enquiry to sign Roma goalkeeper Pau Lopez, according to a report in Calcio Mercato.

Newcastle have reportedly ‘requested’ to sign the goalkeeper and been told to pay £27 million if they want to bring him to St. James’ Park.

Lopez has been in impressive form for Roma this term, and at 25 he still has years ahead of him. 

However, there has to be question marks over whether he would actually be a player Newcastle need to sign.

Steve Bruce’s side look to have good options in goal, with Martin Dubravka one of their most reliable players already.

Newcastle also have Karl Darlow, Freddie Woodman and they have recently added Mark Gillespie to their goalkeeping ranks, so they are well stocked in the position.

Splashing a sizeable fee on a new keeper, therefore, may not be advisable for the Magpies, even if they have new owners in charge and a big budget
