According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United have asked about a potential deal for Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis – but signing him won’t be easy.
It’s claimed that transfers are on hold at Newcastle because of their ongoing takeover. Until the £300million deal goes through, the Magpies won’t be finalising deals.
However, they can still ask about potential targets. One of them appears to be Benfica ace Florentino, but AC Milan are leading the race for his signature.
They want a loan deal with a view to a £35million permanent move – similar to the deal Benfica struck with Tottenham for Gedson Fernandes in January.
Leeds United want to sign Florentino too, according to ESPN. Until they win promotion, it’s hard to imagine that they will be able to agree a deal for the 20-year-old.
With Newcastle left waiting for their takeover too, both clubs are seemingly unable to push forward with a move for Florentino – which may just leave AC Milan feeling confident.

Florentino, nicknamed ‘The Octopus’, is predominantly a holding midfielder who reads the game well and breaks up play, protecting his back four in the process.
The Portuguese youngster looks to have a bright future, and would certainly be an exciting addition for Newcastle if they can pull a deal off – but they face major competition both at home and abroad.
