Newcastle United have reportedly made a move for Leganes star Gabriel.
According to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Newcastle United have submitted an offer for Leganes midfielder Gabriel Appelt Pires – better known as Gabriel – and are waiting for an answer from the La Liga side.
The Magpies look like safe bets for promotion to the Premier League, but Rafael Benitez has been keen to strengthen his squad during this month’s transfer window.

So far, Newcastle have been left frustrated in their attempts to bring in new signings, and it seems that Benitez wants to bring in another midfielder to boost his squad, given how his side struggled during Jonjo Shelvey’s suspension.
The Daily Mail reported on Wednesday that Newcastle are keen on Everton’s James McCarthy, but a new target appears to have emerged today, with Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio claiming that Leganes star Gabriel is now wanted by Benitez.

It’s claimed that Newcastle have submitted an offer for Gabriel, which is a loan deal until the end of the season with a view to a permanent move should the club win promotion to the Premier League.
The Brazilian playmaker has notched two goals and one assist in 18 La Liga appearances this term, and he starred in Leganes’ promotion campaign last season with seven goals in 37 games.
Gabriel, formerly of Juventus, has become an important player for Leganes, but Newcastle have allegedly made their move for the midfielder, and are waiting for a response from the Spaniards ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
Primarily an attack-minded midfielder with impressive technical ability, Gabriel may be seen as a player who can not only help Newcastle get over the line in their push for promotion, but also give Benitez added quality in the Premier League next season.
