Newcastle United have made an approach to sign Stade de Reims hitman Remi Oudin, according to L’Equipe.

Oudin has shone for the French side this season, netting 10 goals in 30 Ligue 1 starts, also providing three assists.

At 22, the young marksman looks to have a promising future and, according to L’Equipe, Newcastle and Watford are among the Premier League sides taking a look.

The report adds that Oudin’s team-mates refer to him as Robin van Persie, the legendary Dutch striker who dazzled for Arsenal and Manchester United in England, and that he could cost around £10.3 million.

If he is even as good as Van Persie then you can understand why the Magpies are keen.

Rafael Benitez might need to significantly strengthen his attacking options during the summer.

Ayoze Perez, who has enjoyed an incredible end to the Premier League campaign, has been linked with a move away, while it remains to be seen whether Benitez can sign up Salomon Rondon on a long-term basis.

The Venezuela hitman is only on loan from West Brom, though he has suitably impressed the St James’s Park faithful for most of the season.
