According to Il Sussidiario in Italy, Newcastle United have made an approach for Roma striker Patrik Schick in recent days.

It’s claimed that Schick’s entourage have received a number of approaches in recent days, notably from Bayer Leverkusen, Fiorentina and Newcastle.

However, it’s AC Milan leading the race for Schick’s signature – and new boss Ralf Rangnick has a major part to play in that.

Rangnick has been a key man at Red Bull, and Schick hit 10 goals whilst on loan at RB Leipzig this past season.

That may tempt Schick into picking Milan, as Rangnick is considered to be a ‘great admirer’ of Schick and wants a reunion.

Schick is allegedly valued at around €29million (£26.3million), but a deal worth €25million (£22.7million) may yet be possible.

Newcastle do need a new striker this summer, and Schick – who was once a star at Sampdoria – could be an option to take some pressure off Joelinton.

Yet without their takeover being done, Newcastle may find it difficult to get a deal finalised, and Milan may now pip them to Schick after all.
