Newcastle United reportedly hoped to sign Junior Stanislas before he signed a new contract with Bournemouth.

Stanislas has been a key player for the Cherries for a number of years, scoring 16 goals since Eddie Howe’s men were promoted to the top flight, while he has also provided 10 assists at the highest level for his current side.
He has not played a particularly prominent role this term, but has scored once and contributed one assist in six appearances in the Premier League. In fairness to the 28-year-old, he has started just once in the league this season. He has also scored two goals in two League Cup games.
But perhaps he could have been plying his trade elsewhere during this campaign had events played out differently. The Chronicle reports that he was on Newcastle’s summer wishlist before signing a new contract at the Vitality Stadium that is set to run until 2021.

It would probably be little surprise if Newcastle supporters were divided about the prospect of signing Stanislas. He is probably not a marquee option that would have captured the imagination at St James’ Park with his arrival.
But he is the kind of player that could have certainly made a contribution to Benitez’s side had he joined. However, after their last two results, it appears that Newcastle may not rue missing out on the former West Ham man too much.
