The Athletic have reported that Max Thompson will be in Newcastle United’s squad for their upcoming Carabao Cup Final against Manchester United on Sunday.

The 18-year-old seems set to head to Wembley, and will likely be one of the backup goalkeepers to either Loris Karius or Mark Gillespie, which remains unknown at this point. This could be a major moment for the teenager, whose father, Ray Thompson has been the kitman for the Magpies for the last 30 years.

Now, a proud father could well see his son, Max Thompson be a part of the Newcastle squad to face Manchester United in the Carabao Cup Final, as the club have a chance of winning their first piece of silverware since 1955.

Max Thompson may be in line for Newcastle spot in the Carabao Cup Final vs Manchester United

As per a report by the Athletic, Newcastle will take their 3 goalkeepers to Wembley as part of their side to go toe-to-toe with Manchester United to lift the Carabao Cup Final, with Max Thompson potentially a part of the roster.

With Nick Pope recently sent off in his side’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in ridiculous fashion, the youngster now has the chance to be a part of a squad on the verge of history.

The stuff of dreams

Of course, Max Thompson has virtually no chance of starting ahead of either Loris Karius or Max Gillespie for Newcastle against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup Final.

However, to understate how massive it is for a youngster, who, alongside his father has been ingrained with the club for years on end would be in poor taste.

It would make a sight to behold to see Thompson win the Carabao Cup Final with Newcastle as a part of a team that could kickstart their burgeoning dynasty by beating Manchester United.
