Newcastle United are showing an interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Hwang Hee-chan this summer.

Hwang Hee-chan is attracting interest from Newcastle United and Aston Villa ahead of the transfer window.

That is according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, who reports that Hwang is heading for the Molineux exit door.

Wolves need to sell some players this summer in order to ease their Financial Fair Play concerns.

Hwang is thought to be one player Wolves will offload and there is interest from both Villa and Newcastle as they seek attacking options.

The report adds that Jose Mourinho is interested in taking Hwang to Roma this summer.

Leeds United were priced out of a move for Hwang last summer and it’s understood that their interest has now faded away.

That’s no huge surprise; Jesse Marsch appeared to be pushing Leeds’ interest in Hwang having worked together at Red Bull Salzburg.

Marsch has long gone now and so has Leeds’ interest in Hwang, possibly paving the way for Villa or Newcastle to swoop in.

Hwang Hee-chan a surprise target for Newcastle and Villa

Hwang has been in decent form of late, scoring three times in last nine games for Wolves.

Yet it’s strange to hear that two teams with big ambitions in Villa and Newcastle allegedly want Hwang.

The 27-year-old is a hard worker and he can operate all across the front line, offering great versatility.

Hwang has never really proven himself to be a prolific goalscorer though and has scored just eight times in 56 Premier League outings.

Newcastle will have big money to spend this summer after qualifying for the Champions League whilst Villa are eyeing up Europe under Unai Emery.

With respect to Hwang, we would expect both Villa and Newcastle to be aiming a little higher this summer, even if Wolves are ready to sell.
