According to Tutto Mercato Web, Newcastle have joined Tottenham and Aston Villa in the race to sign River Plate sensation Julian Alvarez.

What’s the story?

Well, there’s a big queue for the Argentina international, and it’s no surprise to see Newcastle join that queue.

Alvarez has scored 17 goals in 19 games this season, while also providing seven assists, which has caught the eye of the Premier League.

It was Calciomercato who claimed that Tottenham and Aston Villa are keen on signing the 21-year-old, and now Tutto Mercato Web believe the Magpies are involved.

They add that Alvarez has a €20m (£17m) release clause in his contract with River Plate, a figure which should be easily affordable for the Premier League trio.

In truth, that’s a bargain for a 21-year-old international with an impressive amount of goal involvements.

Tutto Mercato Web add that Fiorentina, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus, Real, Atlético Madrid, Sevilla, Manchester City and Manchester United are also interested.

What can Julian Alvarez bring to Newcastle, Tottenham or Aston Villa?

Well, seeing as Alvarez is a bit of an unknown quantity, a comparison to a better known footballer might be of use to you, if you’ve never heard of him.

Interestingly, the Argentine has been likened to Cristiano Ronaldo.

It was South American journalist Rodolfo Cingolani who made the bold claim, which speaks volumes as to how big a talent Alvarez is.

Cingolani said: “I see things very similar to Cristiano Ronaldo in Julian Alvarez. He hits the ball like (Ronaldo), not everyone can do this. He heads the ball, scores goals from free kicks.”

In our view, we can’t see Alvarez staying in Argentina for much longer.

Some of Europe’s biggest clubs are sniffing around, and they’ll want to ensure they snap him up before he becomes a global superstar.

Keep an eye on this saga, as it will be interesting to see who wins the race for Ronaldo 2.0’s signature.
