Newcastle have been previously linked with the Uruguay international.

Italian outlet CalcioMercato have reported that Newcastle United have begun contact over a move to sign AC Milan left-winger Diego Laxalt, and are preparing an offer for the Uruguay international.
Newcastle have been previously linked with the 25-year-old, who jumped onto the radar of a number of European clubs after a string of impressive displays for his country at the World Cup.
Despite The Toon’s interest, Laxalt chose to join AC Milan after the World Cup from Genoa for a fee of £16.2million in August – as reported by CalcioMercato.
But Laxalt has struggled since his move to the San Siro, failing to break into the starting eleven of late. Used primarily as a left winger, Laxalt has failed to score or provide an assist in 18 league and cup appearances.
He has failed to start a Serie A match since November 4, and is now in danger of losing his place completely after being left as an unused substitute last time out against SPAL on December 29.

Newcastle are looking to take advantage of that, by reigniting previous interest in the left-sided flyer. It is said that they have initiated talks with an agent over a move, while the club are preparing an official offer.
Whether Laxalt would be tempted with a move to the Premier League, swapping Milan for Tyneside, is another question. But he would certainly get game time at Newcastle, who are in the midst of a relegation battle.
