Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are reportedly keen on midfielder Giannelli Imbula.
According to SFR Sport, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are both interested in signing Stoke City midfielder Giannelli Imbula despite his struggles in England.
Imbula, 25, starred with Guingamp and Marseille to earn major plaudits and interest, with Porto eventually snapping him up in the summer of 2015.
However, the midfielder struggled to settle in Portugal and was sold to Stoke City just six months later, where he blew hot and cold before falling out with Mark Hughes and heading back to France with Toulouse.
His loan stay with the club garnered one goal and one assist in 28 league games, and he now returns to Stoke with seemingly no future at the club – but he could remarkably earn another Premier League shot.
Despite flopping in the top flight, SFR Sport report that Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are both keen to sign Imbula, given that Stoke have suffered relegation to the Championship.
It’s claimed that Imbula would prefer a permanent return to France, but with no offers on the table, Palace and Newcastle seemingly have a chance at landing a surprise deal.
Tall, strong and technically gifted, Imbula could be a star with the right application and attitude, and either Rafael Benitez or Roy Hodgson may feel that they can get the best out of him.
Newcastle’s interest comes five years after Get French Football News reported that the Magpies wanted Imbula from Marseille, and he may be a name that they have kept tabs on over the years, charting his notable ups and downs.
