Norwich City winger Jacob Murphy is wanted by Newcastle United.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are hopeful that their pursuit of Norwich City winger Jacob Murphy will prove to be successful, with the youngster keen on a move.

The Magpies have endured a difficult transfer window so far, as Christian Atsu’s permanent move from Chelsea means that only one new face has joined Rafael Benitez’s first team, with Florian Lejeune joining from Eibar.

Manager Rafael Benitez is understood to be a little frustrated with Newcastle’s lack of transfer activity this summer, with another winger seemingly at the top of his wish list.

Norwich City’s Jacob Murphy is a prime target, and the Daily Mail report that the Magpies are hopeful that they can push through a deal for the England Under-21 international.

It’s claimed that Newcastle’s £8million bid for Murphy earlier this week as rejected, and whilst Norwich are holding out for more money, the winger looks to be pushing for a move.

The report states that Murphy has expressed his desire to at least speak to Newcastle about a move, and that has given Newcastle real hope that they can seal a move for Murphy this summer.

Murphy, 22, has come up through the ranks with the Canaries, and starred last season with nine goals and six assists before featuring for the England Under-21’s earlier this summer.

Newcastle may have to considerably raise their bid for Murphy to get the deal done, but there may just be a growing sense of belief on Tyneside that Benitez can land his man.
