A report claims Swansea City could compromise on their £10 million valuation of the Newcastle United target.
Newcastle United hope to push through a deal for the Swansea City defender Federico Fernandez, according to the Sun’s printed edition (Wednesday 8th August, page 51).
The newspaper reports negotiators for Rafa Benitez, the Newcastle manager, are thrashing out a fee with Swansea.
And despite claims the Welsh side want £10 million for Fernandez, it adds the Magpies hope to get their man for around £7 million less than that.
Fernandez started Swansea’s first game of the new Championship season on Saturday – a 2-1 win at Sheffield United – but wants a return to the Premier League, according to the Sun.
And the newspaper reports the Jacks may agree to a compromise deal, which includes performance-related bonuses, as they seek to raise funds and trim their wage bill.
Swansea have already seen centre-backs Kyle Bartley and Alfie Mawson depart since the end of last season, and could be left short if Fernandez is sold.
In contrast, Newcastle recently added Fabian Schar to a central defensive pool comprising Ciaran Clark, Florian Lejeune and captain Jamaal Lascelles.
