Newcastle United are reportedly hoping to bring an end to Matz Sels’ St James’ Park spell in the very near future.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Newcastle are hoping that they will soon be offloading Matz Sels to Strasbourg for a fee of £4 million as Rafa Benitez continues to try and make the most of what seems to be another frustrating summer for the Magpies.

Newcastle have completed three signings thus far, but Benitez has not been given the green light to spend significant sums, with Ki Sung-yueng signed for free and Kenedy arriving for another loan spell.

In an apparent attempt to boost the transfer kitty as much as possible, Benitez is seemingly hoping to offload several of his fringe players – and the Mail reports that Sels is one he is hoping to move on.

The Belgian has endured a fairly miserable time at St James’ Park, quickly losing his place as number one following his arrival in 2016 and spending much of his spell out on loan.

The Mail reports that Newcastle are hoping to strike a £4 million deal that will see the 26-year-old join Strasbourg as they, like the Magpies, prepare for their second successive season back in the top flight.

Strasbourg currently have just one senior goalkeeper on their books, so it would be little surprise if they were determined to get a new stopper through the door this summer. And Benitez will be hoping that Sels is the man they get in as he looks for every possible boost to his transfer budget.
