According to Sky Germany, Newcastle have held talks with the representatives of Bernd Leno as his exit from Arsenal draws closer.
What’s the story?
Well, the £19.2m man looks destined to leave Arsenal after losing his place to Aaron Ramsdale, and Newcastle are interested.
Sky Germany believe Leno is open to joining the Magpies and can imagine himself at Newcastle, which bodes well for Eddie Howe.
Having said that, the 29-year-old is keen to represent Germany at the 2022 World Cup in December, and is apprehensive about dropping down to the Championship.
Leno feels relegation could harm his chances of being called up by Hansi Flick.
The £100,000-a-week man is also happy to bide his time and wait for the best opportunity, with interest in his services also coming from Spain.
Ultimately, Sky Germany believe it is ‘almost certain’ that Leno leaves Arsenal, either now or in the summer.
Newcastle should ignore Bernd Leno

While the Magpies could definitely upgrade their goalkeeping department, it is not a priority right now.
Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow are two solid, reliable glovesman for Howe to call upon, both of whom can guard the net competently.
With ten days remaining of the transfer window, time is of the essence for Newcastle, so they shouldn’t waste it by signing a new goalkeeper.

Howe needs at least one new centre-back, while another striker and central midfield option wouldn’t go amiss either.
They are far more pressing areas than the goalkeeping department, so Amanda Staveley should refrain from wasting time on Leno right now.
