The Middlesbrough youngster has disappointed since arriving at the club last summer, but could he realise his true potential at Newcastle United?

According to the Chronicle, the Magpies are interested in signing Boro winger Adama Traore, with the media outlet reporting that the two clubs have held discussions regarding the player over the past few days.

The 21-year-old joined Middlesbrough from Aston Villa on transfer deadline day last summer, but went on to endure a tremendously disappointing campaign at the Riverside, chalking up just one assist and zero goals in 27 Premier League appearances.

The former Barcelona youngster seems to be very much a one trick pony, relying far too much on his blistering pace, and with little end product, it is hard to see why Rafa Benitez would want to bring him to St James’ Park.

The Chronicle report that there could be a possibility of Traore being included in any kid of potential deal that sees Karl Darlow swap Tyneside for Teesside.

They also claim that La Liga clubs Real Betis, Levante and Eibar are interested in signing the Spain under-19 international.

Despite Traore’s struggles during his time at Boro, he undoubtedly possesses an unrivalled raw talent, and Benitez could be the man who can extract the best out of the pacey winger.

If the Spaniard manages to bring him to the Toon, it would undoubtedly be a risky signing, but one that could potentially yield huge dividends for Newcastle.
