According to Calciomercato, Newcastle have spoken to Nikola Milenkovic in recent days about a summer move, with Fiorentina willing to sell.
What’s the story?
Well, the January transfer window only recently closed, but Newcastle are already looking at more ways in which they can spend their millions.
Calciomercato believe the Magpies have set their sights on Milenkovic, as they look to tighten up their defence.
However, Eddie Howe will face competition from Juventus, who are also keen to sign the Serbian international.
Fiorentina are said to value their No.4 at £37.5m, which shouldn’t be an issue for Newcastle due to their newfound wealth.
Calciomercato add that the Serie A side are willing to sell the centre-back for a fair price, which should offer the Magpies plenty of encouragement.
So far this season, the 24-year-old has made 24 appearances for Fiorentina across all competitions, scoring three goals.
Newcastle might not need Nikola Milenkovic

Had you asked us if Newcastle needed Milenkovic in January, we’d have said yes – the Magpies were very, very soft at the back.
However, things are looking a bit different now.
Dan Burn has arrived to bolster Howe’s backline, while Jamaal Lascelles looked back to his best in a commanding performance against Everton.

Additionally, Newcastle made high profile moves for Sven Botman and Diego Carlos in January, both of whom are substantially better than Milenkovic.
Therefore, if Howe does want to sign a new centre-back this summer, he should test the waters for one of those two again before turning to Milenkovic.
