According to Get French Football News, Newcastle have now started to make enquires to Monaco over a move for Benoit Badiashile.

What’s the story?

Well, GFFN believe Newcastle admire the 20-year-old, who Calciomercato claim is also a target for Tottenham and Antonio Conte.

The French news outlet state that Newcastle are thinking about testing the waters with a bid, while they have already made discreet enquiries.

Badiashile – who earns £14,000-a-week at Monaco – is also said to be wanted by Wolves, who have monitored the centre-back for a while.

So far this season, the France Under-21 international has been a key man for Monaco, making 19 appearances in all competitions.

News of Newcastle’s enquiry comes after The Athletic revealed that Eddie Howe wants two centre-backs signed during the January transfer window.

Who could Newcastle target if Tottenham win Benoit Badiashile race?

If Newcastle end up losing out on Badiashile to Spurs or Wolves, the Magpies have other options to pursue.

The Athletic believe Newcastle are in talks with Sevilla over a deal for Diego Carlos, a towering centre-back impressing in Spain.

Additionally, Fabrizio Romano claimed Newcastle will bid again for Lille defender Sven Botman, after a €35m (£29m) offer was rejected.

Newcastle have also been credited with an interest in West Ham colossus Issa Diop, according to The Athletic.

As you can see, Newcastle have shortlisted plenty of options, so it wouldn’t be a total nightmare if Badiashile moves elsewhere, as good as he is.

Keep an eye on this saga, as GFFN state there’s a chance of Monaco selling their wonderkid this month.
