90Min report Newcastle have now approached Brighton over a move to sign colossal defender Dan Burn before the January deadline. It comes after reports suggested Newcastle might consider a move to sign the Seagulls ace.

Burn, 29, has been a crucial part of Brighton’s side over the last few years – since his £4million (Sun) move to Graham Potter’s outfit from Wigan. Burn has played as a left-back, a centre-back and the left of a back three.

It is just what Newcastle are after. The Toon need a centre-back after the failure to bring in Diego Carlos. The club’s only left-footed option is Ciaran Clark, who has struggled to win fans over since joining Newcastle.

After initial reports that Newcastle were interested in the Brighton defender, Newcastle have now made an approach to land the 6ft 6in defender. It is unclear how much Brighton would want for Burn.

Burn is said to be a Newcastle fan, having been born in the north east. He was even in Newcastle’s academy until the age of 11, before he was released. The defender has a contract at Brighton until June 2023.

Newcastle approach Brighton for Burn: What is a fair price?

A regular for Brighton, Burn has proved over the last three seasons that he is more than adept at Premier League level in numerous positions. He fits into Newcastle’s transfer policy this month, proven top-tier performers.

Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood have come in, players in the peak of their careers and have starred in the Premier League. Burn is just that. But at 29, with a contract until 2023, a bargain could be had.

If Newcastle can arrange a fee in the region of £15million, then it is a decent signing for the Toon. Whether Brighton would be willing to sell to Newcastle remains to be seen, as we approach the deadline next Monday.
