Newcastle United have now been in contact with Manchester United over the availability of a number of players, 90 Mins report.

Van de Beek to Newcastle?

Newcastle are set to try and bolster their squad significantly in January, and it seems that plenty of the players at Old Trafford are interesting them.

Eddie Howe’s side have been to Manchester United are asked whether Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial, Nemanja Matic, Donny van de Beek and Phil Jones are available next month, according to the update.

The response they were given is is not mentioned in the report – but it may have been a mixed one by the Red Devils.

Newcastle’s chances of signing Lingard seem to have taken a knock this week, while Sky report that Martial wants to move to Sevilla.

But the links to Van de Beek certainly are interesting.

Manchester United fans have regularly called for the Dutchman to be used more often, but he has really struggled to break into the team at Old Trafford since his £35 million move.

Van de Beek, who has been labelled as ‘quality’ by Bruno Fernandes, has started just four games all season so a move could appeal.

What about Phil Jones?

If Newcastle have asked about Jones they surely would have been green lighted there.

Jones, like Van de Beek, has barely played this season – but at Newcastle he could be a key asset.

Since Eddie Howe took charge, the Magpies’ defensive issues have been clear to see, and if they are to stay up then tightening up defensively will be crucial over the second half of the campaign.
