According to The Athletic, Southampton are far from happy after their Premier League clash against Newcastle was postponed earlier today.
What’s the story?
Well, Newcastle were scheduled to take on Southampton at St Mary’s on Sunday, although the Premier League have now postponed the game.
The Magpies have too many cases of COVID-19 in their squad which, coupled with injuries, has left Eddie Howe without a number of first-team players.
It comes after Newcastle also had their meeting with Everton on December 30th postponed for the same reason.
The Athletic understand Southampton have been left angered by the decision, and have let their feelings be known.
Newcastle are currently without Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin, Ryan Fraser, Isaac Hayden and Javier Manquillo, among other first-team members.

The Magpies had enough players to field a side on Monday 27th December when they recorded a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at St James’ Park.
However, injuries suffered during that clash have resulted in back-to-back postponements for the Toon Army.
Southampton can’t be angry at Newcastle
We’re not quite sure why Southampton are angered by this decision.
Newcastle have an outbreak of COVID-19, so it is imperative that those players – or any players who have come in contact with them – do not mingle with other Premier League players.

Of course, it’s frustrating to see another postponement, although Southampton can use this time to let their players recharge their batteries.
With the amount of fixtures Ralph Hasenhuttl has managed so far this month, surely he will appreciate a small breather for his squad.
Nevertheless, that doesn’t seem to be the case, so it appears Newcastle have made another enemy, having gained plenty during the unpopular takeover.
