Newcastle United have asked about another relegated club’s left-back, according to Marca.

The Magpies have been strongly linked with a move for Jamal Lewis of Norwich City.

But it is claimed they are also keen on Adria Pedrosa of Espanyol.

Newcastle, along with Villarreal, Real Betis and Osasuna, have tried for Pedrosa in recent weeks.

The 23-year-old played 32 times in La Liga last season, but could not save Espanyol, his hometown team, from relegation to the Segunda.

And he is one of the players the Catalan club have deemed ‘transferable’ as a result, according to Marca.

But is claimed that Espanyol have not ruled out using Pedrosa as a ‘bargaining chip’, and have their eyes on a trio of Villarreal players, including the once Newcastle-linked wing-back, Alfonso Pedraza.

That could give Unai Emery’s side the upper hand in any negotiations.

But if Lewis, and/or the Brazilian left-back Rogerio of Sassulo, arrive at Newcastle in the coming few weeks then that probably won’t matter.

Pedrosa, who turned 22 earlier this year, has been capped four times for the Spanish Under-21 side.
