Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United have made a second and improved offer for Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison, according to The Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported on Twitter this afternoon that Newcastle have offered to pay Premier League rivals Leicester a transfer fee in excess of £45 million for the playmaker.
Edwards has added that the Magpies made the second bid for the 25-year-old England international today.
Here on HITC Sport, we covered claims over the weekend of Newcastle’s initial offer of £40 million for Maddison being turned down by Leicester.
The former Premier League champions reportedly want £60 million for Maddison.

Could a transfer happen?
In our view, James Maddison’s desire would be key to Newcastle United potentially signing the Leicester City star in the summer transfer window.
Leicester are a big and established club in the Premier League, and if they want £60 million as transfer fee for the 25-year-old, then they will not sell him for anything less.
However, if Maddison himself wants to leave the Foxes for Newcastle, then the former Premier League champions may have to compromise over the fee.
After all, Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers will surely not want to keep a player who does not want to stay.
Maddison scored 12 goals and gave eight assists in the Premier League and scored one goal and gave two assists in the Europa League for Leicester last season.
So far in his Premier League career, the English playmaker has scored 33 goals and created 38 big chances in 133 appearances.
