Bordaeux striker Kamano has been linked with Newcastle since the summer window.
The Chronicle have claimed that Bordeaux forward Francois Kamano has been discussed by Newcastle United in “transfer meetings” held between Rafa Benitez and the club’s hierarchy.
The 22-year-old has been in excellent form for Bordeaux this season, scoring eight goals in 17 Ligue 1 appearances despite making the majority of his appearances from out wide.
He has 11 in all competitions, also finding the back of the net in the Europa League three times against Russian powerhouses Zenit St. Petersburg, Austrian side Ventspils and Belgian outfit Gent.
Newcastle are likely to be active this month but it remains in what capacity they will be bringing players in. Owner Mike Ashley continues to keep a tight stronghold on the Toon coffers, while an impending takeover could derail transfers.
But it is apparent that meetings have taken place ahead of the January window to discuss possible incomings and outgoings, and 23-time Guinea international Kamano has been mentioned in said meetings.
The forward has a contract with the French side until the summer of 2020, meaning Bordeaux are running out of time to keep the speed machine and may need to sell soon if they want to bring in some cash for their in-form star.
The report claims Newcastle would have to spend more than £10million to land Kamano, which may be a tall order for Ashley given that the club’s transfer record remains the capture of Michael Owen from Real Madrid in 2005.
