Newcastle are looking to lure a goalkeeper to St. James’ Park this month.

Newcastle United have seen their loan bid for Slavia Prague goalkeeper Martin Dubravka rejected, according to the Shields Gazette, as Rafa Benitez’s January frustration continues.
Benitez is desperate to sign a new goalkeeper after failing in the summer, and has been linked with the likes of Napolo’s Pepe Reina, Paris Saint-Germain’s Kevin Trapp and Real Madrid’s Kiko Casilla.

However, he instead opted to land 29-year-old Dubravka on loan for the rest of the season, but Slavia Prague have thrown a spanner in the works by rejecting the Toon’s attempts to land him on a temporary basis.
Benitez had felt the eight-time Slovakia international was good enough to rival Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot for a place between the sticks, with the latter injured and Darlow failing to shake off the reputation of being error prone.

Dubravka, on the other hand, has been in excellent form this season, keeping seven clean sheets in 15 league and cup outings – conceding just 12 goals.
It remains to be seen if Newcastle will renew their bid to land the former MSK Zilina stopper, or whether they turn their attention to another target with Benitez still unbeknown to how much he has to spend this month.
