According to RMC Sport, Newcastle had agreed a deal to sign Hugo Ekitike, but things are now stalling after Paris Saint-Germain expressed interest.
What’s the story?
Well, this is not good news for the Magpies.
Newcastle had agreed a £30m fee with Reims, and they had also agreed personal terms with Ekitike, so everything seemed to be moving in the right direction.
Interestingly, RMC Sport add that the 19-year-old took his time before agreeing to join Newcastle, which suggested he wasn’t entirely convinced.
Now, that suggestion has further credence, as PSG have seemingly turned the teenager’s head.
RMC Sport believe Newcastle won’t wait around forever, and have alternatives to Ekitike lined up in case negotiations collapse.
It has even been said that Ekitike could join Newcastle on loan, ahead of a permanent deal.

The Frenchman and his entourage prefer to wait until they have every option on the table before making a final decision, according to the French news outlet.
In 26 appearances last season, Ekitike – who is also a target for Arsenal – scored 11 goals, while also providing four assists.
Newcastle have time to beat PSG
In our view, Newcastle still have time to get this deal finalised before PSG get seriously involved.
RMC Sport mention that the French champions will wait until they find a replacement for Mauricio Pochettino before pushing forward with their pursuit of Ekitike.

Therefore, Eddie Howe and Dan Ashworth have time to persuade Ekitike against a move to Paris – the French giants are not exactly close to finding a new manager.
Having said that, if there is still some resistance on the striker’s side, then the Magpies should walk away.
As aforesaid, there was some reluctance to join even before PSG got involved, so if he isn’t sold on a move to Tyneside, Howe should begin to explore his alternative options.
