Turkish outlet Takvim claim scouts from Newcastle, Fulham and Nottingham Forest watched Hungarian defender Attila Szalai on Saturday, as he helped his country beat England. All three officials were impressed by Szalai.

The 24-year-old has regularly been a target for Premier League clubs – with Newcastle and West Ham considering an offer according to reports in April. It appears the Toon are still looking at Szalai.

The Hungary ace only joined Fenerbahce in January 2021 and has since clocked up 65 appearances for the Turkish outfit. Takvim claim the SuperLig giants want little over £10million.

They also say that scouts from newly-promoted duo Fulham and Forest, as well as cash-rich Newcastle, were in Budapest on Saturday to watch Szalai – who played the full match as Hungary won 1-0.

Newcastle, Fulham and Forest scouts watch Szalai: £10m is a bargain

Szalai is a powerhouse. Strong, quick, aggressive, solid in the air. His ability with the ball at his feet needs work, but at 24 and worth just £10million, he is a no-brainer for any Premier League side outside of the top six.

Newcastle could do with options. Ciaran Clark and Fede Fernandez are due to leave – leaving them with just Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar and Dan Burn. A big pay cheque on Tyneside will be tempting.

Fulham are likely to bring in signings, as are Forest. But Newcastle’s project and cash surely puts the Toon in first place ahead of a potential move for the defender.
