According to The Times, Newcastle United have finally convinced Matty Longstaff to sign a new contract with the club.
It’s claimed that Longstaff has been persuaded to commit his future to the Magpies, having previously been expected to leave.
Udinese were leading the race in a move that would have landed Newcastle just £400,000 in compensation, whilst Leeds United have been interested too.
However, Longstaff now looks set to stay at Newcastle, and will earn a ‘significant improvement’ on his £800-a-week contract.
Longstaff’s deal ended earlier this summer, but Newcastle have now managed to tempt him into committing to the Magpies.
Moving to Yorkshire may have been appealing to the Rotherham-born ace, but Leeds will now have to look elsewhere for a new midfielder.

Longstaff, 20, only managed six Premier League starts last season, but did manage to chip in with two goals – both against Manchester United.
With Longstaff’s future now about to be settled, Newcastle will hope to see him develop into a first-team regular over the coming years, just like brother Sean Longstaff did.
