According to The Times, Newcastle United failed with an attempt to land Ryan Fraser in May – but now seem to have a better chance.

It’s claimed that Newcastle made contact with Fraser four months ago, in order to try and engineer a pre-contract agreement with him.

Unfortunately for Newcastle, Fraser chose not to sign such a deal, though he did leave Bournemouth at the end of his contract just a month later.

Now, the Magpies are back in talks with free agent Fraser and have renewed hope that he will actually sign this time.

Fraser allegedly wants to be closer to his family in Aberdeen, which admittedly is still a 250 mile journey from Newcastle.

Still, it’s a hell of a lot closer than Bournemouth at around 600 miles, whilst Crystal Palace and West Ham United don’t get him all that much closer.

That may well appeal to Fraser, who won’t get closer to Aberdeen in the Premier League, ,so Newcastle may well believe that they’re going to land their man.

The 26-year-old starred in the 2018-19 season with Bournemouth, bagging seven goals and 14 assists in a superb campaign.

Fraser’s form dipped last season after failing to win a move away, and Newcastle may now land something of a coup on a free transfer.
