Newcastle United are reportedly pursuing Rennes ace Faitout Maouassa.

According to L’Equipe, Newcastle United have offered €8million (£7.15million) for Rennes ace Faitout Maouassa – but the offer has been rejected.
The Magpies are in need of major reinforcements during this month’s transfer window, and a new left back has to be a priority for boss Rafael Benitez.
Paul Dummett is the only recognised left back at the club right now, with Achraf Lazaar completely frozen out, and a new signing must be made to compete with Dummett.
A host of names have been linked, but L’Equipe now claim that Newcastle have made a bid of €8million (£7.15million) for Rennes ace Maouassa, who is currently on loan at Nimes, but their offer has been quickly rejected.
The 20-year-old joined Rennes from Nancy in 2017, and made 22 appearances last season before being sent out on loan to Nimes for this season.
With nine Ligue 1 appearances to his name this term, the diminutive Frenchman is receiving crucial playing time at this stage in his career, and Newcastle have seemingly been left impressed.

Unfortunately though, their bid – which would have presumably seen Maouassa’s loan ended in order for him to head to St James’ Park – has been rejected, and it remains to be seen whether they come back with another bid.
Also capable of playing as a winger, Maouassa has a decent turn of pace but has surprisingly been converted to a left back of late, and Benitez may hope that he can help develop him with a move to Tyneside this month.
