Newcastle United are reportedly looking to sign Brentford striker Scott Hogan in January.
According to The Guardian, Newcastle United are eyeing January move for Brentford striker Scott Hogan having missed out on Aston Villa’s Rudy Gestede.
The Magpies lost 1-0 to Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day as they gave up the Championship’s top spot to Brighton and Hove Albion, showing that there’s still plenty of work for Rafael Benitez’s side to do as they seek a Premier League return.

Given that Daryl Murphy has become the forgotten man since his August move from Ispwich Town, Newcastle appear to be in the market for another new striker during the January transfer window.
The Guardian report that Newcastle have lost out to Middlesbrough in the race to sign Aston Villa striker Rudy Gestede – but are now lining up Brentford’s Scott Hogan as a possible alternative.

Hogan, 24, has risen from non-league having turned out for the likes of Woodley Sports, Mossley, Stocksbridge Park Steels, Ashton United and Hyde, whilst was also a team-mate Leicester star Jamie Vardy at Halifax Town.
Now at Brentford following a 2014 move from Rochdale, Hogan missed 18 months with through injury, but is now back to full fitness, and firing on all cylinders for Dean Smith’s Bees.
After scoring seven times in seven games at the end of last season, Hogan has hit 13 goals in 24 games this season, attracting major interest ahead of January, with The Mirror claiming that Brentford have slapped a £15million asking price on Hogan’s head.
It’s stated that Newcastle could fund a move by selling Aleksandar Mitrovic in January, but whilst Gestede could have been a direct replacement for the burly target man, Hogan doesn’t fir that mould at all.
Gestede has size, power and aerial ability, but Hogan is more like his former team-mate Vardy; quick, pacey and sharp, living on the shoulder of the last man, much like current Newcastle goalscorer Dwight Gayle, with Benitez possibly abandoning the idea of a target man.
