The Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund want to hire Bayern Munich’s chief scout, Laurent Busser, to head up Newcastle United’s new transfer policy, according to Foot Mercato.

Busser has built a prominent reputation in footballing circles with his work as the head of Der FCB’s recruitment.

He joined the Bavarian powerhouse in January 2018 after five-years with Bayer Leverkusen, occupying the same role for Die Werkself.

Busser is renowned for spotting promising young talents and agreeing contracts beneficial to his club.

Bayern Munich signed Jamal Musiala from Chelsea in 2019 as a 16-year-old, who has gone on to become a star.

Musiala became Bayern’s youngest ever player to feature in the Bundesliga last June. He is also their youngest Champions League goalscorer after netting against Lazio this February.

The Stuttgart-born midfielder also became Germany’s second-youngest ever goalscorer last month in his ninth-cap. Controlling a 40-yard pass, driving forward and calmly firing home.

Other rising stars to move to the Allianz Arena under Busser’s watch include Chris Richards, Alphonso Davies and Omar Richards.

Bayern snapped Davies up from Vancouver Whitecaps for a Major League Soccer record at the time £10m. The fee could rise to £16.5m, but is now a Champions League winner.

PIF want Bayern chief Busser to head up Newcastle transfer plans

The PIF now want Busser to head up Newcastle’s transfer policy following the Saudi-led £305m takeover at St James’ Park.

United’s owners would have to agree terms with Bayern Munich for the 49-year-old’s exit, however, as he is under contract.

The six-time European Cup champions will no doubt be loath to lose the Frenchman, given some of his successful signings.

Busser would be a big coup for the PIF’s vision for Newcastle to ensure the Magpies make wise transfer decisions.
