Newcastle United are reportedly contemplating a move to sign Inter Milan playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu, with Liverpool also linked with the Turkish international this summer.

According to Inter Live, Newcastle could launch an attempt to bring the attacking midfielder to St. James Park as their final signing of the summer transfer window, with the Toon one of the most active sides in the market this year and making some huge moves in the form of Sven Botman, Nick Pope and Alexander Isak.

And now, Newcastle are reportedly eyeing Calhanoglu as their final piece of the puzzle, though Inter are resigned to letting one of their star players leave the San Siro so late in the window, with the 28-year-old only moving to the Nerazzurri last year from city rivals AC Milan.

Newcastle are not the only club interested in Calhanoglu, though, with Liverpool also reportedly keeping tabs on the German-born superstar, with previous reports in Italy suggesting that Inter would only sell the Turkish international in this window for €30m (£25m).

Hailed by former coach Winfried Schafer as an ‘exceptional’ talent with similar qualities to former Arsenal superstar Mesut Ozil, Calhanoglu would add a creative spark into the Newcastle squad very few players in the side can offer, with the Inter star a perfect compliment for new signing Isak and starring striker Callum Wilson.

Indeed, Newcastle have the financial firepower to sign Calhanoglu this late in the window, yet with Inter reluctant to sell their main creative outlet, a deal could be near-impossible to conclude with such little time left in the transfer window for business to be concluded.

Newcastle should wait until January to launch move to sign Calhanoglu

Calhanoglu is one of the most technically gifted players in Europe, with the Serie A star mesmerising fans for years with his delicate touches and outrageous free-kicks, and whilst a move to Newcastle would be a good signing, the Magpies should wait until January before making an attempt to bring the Turkish star to the Premier League.

After all, Newcastle’s current system is working wonders and going toe-to-toe with some of the best sides in England, and whilst Calhanoglu would be another quality addition, adding the playmaker could disrupt Howe’s work that is simply too good to need any more tinkering.
