Foot Mercato claim that four Premier League clubs are looking to raid Chelsea and sign Malang Sarr – in the form of West Ham, Everton, Newcastle and Leicester City. A loan deal could be engineered soon.
Sarr, 22, has broken into Chelsea’s side of late, starring on the left of a back three under Thomas Tuchel. He impressed in both semi-finals against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup – and the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.
Chelsea have plenty of options at centre-back, though. While Sarr is left-footed, the likes of Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Trevor Chalobah are ahead in the pecking order.
The report says Tuchel is keen on keeping £120,000-a-week (Spotrac) Sarr, largely because he is a left-footed option. But Sarr could want more game time and West Ham, Everton, Newcastle and Leicester are eyeing a loan.
Sarr showing potential: West Ham, Everton, Newcastle or Leicester?
West Ham desperately need a centre-back in on loan. Angelo Ogbonna is out for the season, Kurt Zouma is injured and the Europa League knockout stages are on the horizon. Leicester have numerous options.
But again, playing three at the back and in the Conference League, Sarr is good cover – especially with Caglar Soyuncu in poor form. Newcastle need a replacement for Ciaran Clark, who is simply not good enough.
Everton are probably the one side that do not need Sarr – given they have Mason Holgate, Ben Godfrey, Michael Keane and Yerry Mina as options. But while Sarr continues to get game time at Chelsea, does he need to leave?
