Newcastle United, Everton and West Ham United all reportedly hope to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Mateta is on Lyon’s books, but goes into the summer off the back of a stunning season out on loan with Le Havre, where he scored 17 goals in 35 Ligue 2 games. Unsurprisingly, it appears that his form has attracted the attention of a number of clubs in England.

TEAMtalk adds that Mateta is interested in a move to England. But based on his form last season, it would perhaps be a surprise if his parent club make it easy for the Premier League quartet to bag his signature.

Newcastle certainly need to add to their striker options after a season where their top goalscorer ended the campaign with just eight league goals, and their most prolific striker finished with just six.
Similarly, Everton’s and West Ham’s top league goalscorers finished with just 10 and 11 goals respectively, so they may be hoping that Mateta is the kind of striker that would make them a lot more dangerous from next season.
